WE DRAW IT, CUT IT, AND PUT IT UP
Kestrel has been fabricating structural steel in Tauranga since 2004. Twenty-two people: four detailers, eleven in the workshop, two truck drivers and an erection crew of five. We do our own detailing, which is the part most fabricators farm out. It costs us four salaries and it is the reason our steel fits: the person who drew the connection is down the corridor from the person welding it, and both of them are on the phone to the engineer rather than to a bureau in another timezone. We work to AS/NZS 5131 CC2 and CC3, every welder is qualified to AS/NZS 1554, and we have never handed a job over with an outstanding NCR.
